The Shrine of the Grotto of the Redemption was recently named a Diocesan Shrine by the Bishop of Sioux City, R. Walker Nickless. This change is designation makes this pilgrimage site a destination Catholics and non-Catholics alike, as there are only two such shrines in Iowa. The Shrine is a composite of nine separate Grottos, each portraying a scene in the life of Christ. It includes the largest collection of precious stones and gems found anywhere in one location. This awesome beauty combined with the awe-inspiring message of the Grotto of the Redemption is beyond words. Applications have been submitted to make the Shrine a National Shrine as recognized by both the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Vatican.
Besides the Shrine we also have a Historical Village in town and The Villager, an old fashioned Soda Fountain. Please visit www.westbendiowa.com for a list of all attractions and information on each.
