This is my kind of campground! Small enough to say hello to everyone, spacious enough to be left alone. I first visited in June this year. It is exactly one hour drive from my office in North Palm Beach, perfect to get away for weekends. The park is on a nice wide strip of the "Rim Canal" which encircles the 7th largest lake in the United States, Lake Okeechobee. This park is very very quiet. I like to get a spot right on the sea wall and spend hours in the morning gazing up & down the waterway & listening to the sounds of nature. The opposite side of the waterway is the levee to Lake O, so there's no civilization in sight. There's a scenic trail running along the top of the levee, but it is so peaceful to watch the great herons fly overhead, the fish jump in front of the little wooden boat dock at my site, and listen for the low hum of a skip boat out for a morning troll. The new managers (took over in spring) are super awesome. They have renovated the clubhouse bathrooms, installed security cameras and lighting throughout the park and since they live on site, they are always available for a question or lend a hand with a hookup. They're always working on some improvement, whether it be repainting the porch posts or adding new landscaping. (I especially love the new bench swing under the big ol' oak tree at the front entrance) The pool is immaculate, new lounge chairs, 2 picnic tables under the tiki hut. Can't believe how affordable it is too. This place is very casual, not stuffy at all, not pretentious. What you see is what you get. Clean and friendly too. I've met 2 nice families & several full-time residents there. I just came home from my 8th weekend there and I must say, it feels like home. They lovingly call me their "little weekender", some not knowing my name but they remember my one-of-a-kind "Cottage Camper. " There's a great little video on their website that is very helpful to really get a feel for what it's like there, but just make sure to save me one of the waterfront sites!
