Stoney Creek Resort

Stoney Creek Resort, Greenville, VA -- Stoney Creek RV Resort is a busy place, with the majority of sites being taken by permanent or weekend residents. The best sites by the man-made lake, seem to be occupied by the full-time residents, and we were directed to a site way back in the woods, and I missed it first time around because the signs needed some work. The lady next to our spot came over and asked if we "get to bed early", hoping that the big "cornhole competition" nearby wouldn't keep us awake. She asked if I knew what was, and I said I was afraid to ask. I had no idea a kid's beanbag game was so popular in that area. The camp is obviously popular to the locals, and made for an interesting overnight stop for us. My wife looked at the map and realized that the real-life "Waltons" home was just over the mountain in Schuyler, Virginia, about 50 miles away. So, the next day we unloaded the toad and drove the mountain roads to see it, and tour the museum. Fans of the "Walton" tv show should be sure to take this trip, the winding mountain roads were beautiful, especially the section called "Plank Road", and Schuyler was an interesting place to visit.

Rocky Springs Campground

Rocky Springs Campground, Mercer, PA -- The young couple who bought this campground last year couldn't have been nicer. There is a lack of pull-through spots, but they helped me park across a couple of regular pads, and that worked-out fine. Adding pull-throughs is something they are trying to solve. No wifi or cable, and we couldn't get any air television stations, but no problem for us, with a Sprint air card and a couple hundred movies under the bed. We'll be back next year to check on their progress improving this already nice park.

Onapa RV Park & Campground

Onapa RV Park & Campground, Checotah, OK -- The owners have put lot of work into this campground. Clean, well organized. Elec/water/sewer connections first class. Quiet spot - close (3 mi) to I40, easy to find but without noise from the highway. They welcome you like family. Wish we could stay longer.
